Abstract

Accelerated urban growth brings in many problems. Transportation is one such area where the problem is manifested acutely. Accelerated urban growth demands increased mobility, in many cases far in excess of the capacities of existing facilities. If the transportation system continuously lags behind to accommodate the requirements of urban growth, the basic purpose for which the urban areas are established will suffer resulting in slowing down of the national development.

Abstract

Traffic problem has become an universal urban problem in recent years. Street congestion, lack of adequate parking space, problem of mass transportation, increasing road accident-various components of this universal traffic problem have threatened the environment and growth of urban areas to a serious extent. It is, therefore, only natural that increasing attention is being paid to find out ways and means to ease this problem through application of sound planning and engineering technique.
